The Birds are Chirping

0

I love waking up to the sound of bird chirping outside. This Sunday morning was no exception. I found myself stretching my paws and waking up to the sound of a pair of doves cooing and red bellied finches twittering away outside the back bay window. What a glorious way to welcome the day ahead.

Today M is working on more brooches and some vector art.
Here's a sample of one of her bird brooches inspired by the backyard "choir" we all enjoy:

If I had room on my doggie collar I'd certainly be wearing a little bird brooch.

Saturday is Like Sunday

2

Today feels like Sunday. Don't you think so?

As I was out making a stroll around the block, I caught the whiff of a BBQ. Smokey billows of yumminess drifted through the air and I realized someone somewhere had to be roasting a butternut squash. I know, weird huh?

Then I thought, oh boy, it must be Sunday. I love Sunday because sometimes just as the sherbert sun is about to dip from the cyan sky, M will grab me and we'll head to Balboa to catch a sunset right on the shores edge. There's nothing like digging my paws into the sand and watching the magic that occurs when the day becomes night. Plus, I love a good splash in the salty water.

Alas, I arrived home to discover junk mail. Shucks! Junk mail means it's Saturday. Of course, I love to "recycle" the junk mail for M and M, but still, that doesn't beat the sky turning colors of caterpillar orange, lobster reds, and fluffy puffs of cotton candy pink.

So, today turned out to be Saturday and tomorrow will be the day I thought today was and could have been.

Umm, only five more hours. :-)

Surprises Make for an Interesting Sunday

0

Today I got two surprises.

First, I saw a tall glass of liquid sitting on the coffee table and decided to stick my nose in there and sneak a sip. Whoa baby! I got a surprise alright. The clear pulpy drink made my lips pucker. Turns out M had made a glass of lemonade and forgot to sweeten the pitcher before pouring herself a glass! Just my luck. I gave the glass a good bark and proceeded to drink about half of my water bowl until my dog tags were clinking quite loudly.

The second surprise today happened outside. I found the first stalks of a calla lily breaking through the soil. The stalky green fingers are reaching from under the ground, much like the hands of a zombie in Night of the Living Dead. Oh wait, if I have to walk out there at night, that image might not be such a good thing to plant in my mind. Oops.

Anyways, I hope you're having a wonderful Sunday.

Sometimes I Like to Tag Along

0

Sunday is often a day on which I can take the time to ponder. I can let my doggie mind drift.

Today, for instance, I realized something.

Sometimes I don't mind taking a back seat. I watch the oak leaves tumble across the grass. I see the Calico cat, from down the street, perched up under the eaves of a second story. My eyes catch the moist trail of a snail who has since found his or her way under the white powdery leaves of a dusty miller.

I get to see everything I might have missed otherwise. I become a witness to life and the beauty of the small things I often overlook.

Plus, after a long walk, I also get a handful of homemade peanut butter and cheese doggie biscuits. Crunch crunch.

Nothing Says Sunday Like a Mourning Dove

0

Today I took my daily romp around the yard. As I took a little time to explore some roses under the fig tree, I happened to catch a glimpse above me of whipcream colored feathers beneath fanned out pinkish gray brown feathers. There, sitting all fluffed out about seven feet above my head, a dove peered down at me. She had been sitting above me the whole time. Her silent eyes darted back and forth at me suspiciously. I paused and tipped my head to her and she tipped her beak back. I left her and her makeshift nesting spot undisturbed on the curled bark of a decaying gray branch.

There's something quite special to hearing the coo coo of a dove as she carries on a conversation with the storm clouds rolling in from the North.

As I trotted back inside I heard a faint coo and a flutter of wings. Thinking I had spooked her, I glanced back at the fig tree. Still resting in the same spot, she now cuddled with her companion to stay warm.

Yes, nothing says Sunday like a Mourning Dove.

Sewing on Sunday

0

M is embroidering something by hand.
The other M is sketching.
Me? I'm taking a doggie nap after I blog.

So, today the clocks are all set and showing the correct time. Weird how that happened yesterday, eh? Still haven't figured out what caused the digital boxes to go all wonky. The alarm ended up going off in the afternoon and then again in the evening. This freaked me out man! I went bonkers. Ok, so I ran around barking at everything...and I mean everything. Eventually, I gained control over my instinct to rip and shred a cardboard box and I was able to curl up for a nap.

Speaking of which...

It's Windy!

0

Today the wind is singing as a gust passes through the breezeway. I took a jaunt out to the fig tree and caught a Red Tailed Hawk soaring high above. So majestic. So beautiful. Oh how I wish I could fly. I'd be up among the cyan blue sky looking down on the patches of land stitched together into mosaics of green and yellow.

Then I saw pine needles dropping from the tall pine out back. First one tail length of brown dropped and then another. After a few moments the ground below, no longer lush and green, turned completely to an earthy golden brown. Yes, fall is here.

I turned my head toward the sky and woofed.

Fluffy White Clouds on a Sunday

0

Sometimes it's fun to jump into a pile of maple leaves, flip on my back, and watch the sky.
