Twas the day after Christmas

0

Twas the day after Christmas
and I got dressed in a hurry
my paws still tasted like peppermint
and I drank my coffee quite early

Out in the blue T-Bird
the window rolled down
I set my chin on the edge
and waited for smelly town

I sniffed and I snuffed
the exhaust hit me quite hard
and then my driver remembered
she's forgotten her credit card

We rushed back home
and I slurped up some water
I barked and I barked
my sweater had gotten much hotter

We whisked away once again
and arrived at the mall
where we drove in a maze
hoping for an empty stall

The labyrinth of cars
red blue and yellow
made humans scream out
and they weren'’t very mellow

IÂ’m pretty sure
Saint Nick has a new list to make
because those other drivers
were very naughty for goodness sake!

After an hour or so
I spotted an empty stall
and boy were we happy
to have come after all

She bundled me up
and I got my paws on the ground
Being careful to miss
the bubblegum stuck in a mound

The glass doors opened
as we approached with glee
I put my tail between my legs
there were so many people to see!

Tall men wearing baseball hats
and kids on leashes in tow
women decked in crystal brooches
aMuzakac curled my ears into a bow

From store to store we went
overwhelming to say the least
See's Candy chocolate truffles
to a warm cinnamon bun feast

I trotted from Nordstroms
and into the Apple store we did peek
a ride on the merry-go-round
more than 50% off sales we did seek

So many shopping bags
they all bumped into my head
and strollers, no more strollers,
I fear them with dread!

The escalator roared
and I shivered at the mountain of steel
Would my fur get caught?
Will I be trampled by another designer heel?

At last the gift cards
none were left in her pocket
so we grabbed a ride in the glass elevator
and shot down from the food court like a rocket

I made it to the car
and the windows stayed up
I snored on the passenger seat
because I'm a worn out pup

Arriving home
I ran to my bed and jumped inside,
grabbed the covers by my teeth
because until next Christmas
...this is where I'm going to hide!

On Dasher, On Dancer...

0

It's that time of year again! I've been around the block, seen thousands of Christmas lights, Santa Claus sleighs, Rudolphs, and candy canes galore! I LOVE it all! Looks like Disneyland. Makes me feel like warm cocoa inside and like marshmellows are dancing inside my doggie head!

Merry Christmas!

The First Card of Christmas: Snowflake Santa

0

snowflake santa claus card
I'm a crafty dog. I love making things, especially if glue, paste, glitter, or fun foam are involved. So, today's card is a one-of-a-kind Snowflake Santa.

Recipe for Card calls for:
---------------------
5x7 card stock
bendable craft wire
one sheet of red felt (sticky backing)
one sheet of black felt (sticky backing)
one sheet of white felt (sticky backing)
one sheet of white fun foam
one sheet of red fun foam
flesh colored coloring pencil
self-adhesive photo two-sided stickers
mini star hole punch
and of course, imagination!

A fun sketch of Santa done by M and M brought about the overall design. Then the parts were assembled and Santa was born! Merry Christmas!

Tofurkey ?

0

What is the world coming to? I just celebrated Thanksgiving and where in the heck did Tofurkey come from? I went trotting about the legs of the oak dining room table, lifting my paw once I caught the gaze of a human, and with my best fluttery blinking, I'd beg a little table scrap here and there.

Well, to my utter surprise, a few humans tried forking over some table scrap called Tofurkey. The other humans were calling them Vegans or something. Now, I'm all for loving animals, don't get me wrong. But that's ridiculous. I want REAL turkey meat on Thanksgiving. Dark meat. White meat. Giblets in my stuffing. Gimme all the goodies!

But when I beg, I want REAL turkey gosh darnit! No fake gobble meat. I mean, how do I know what kinda farm they raise this Tofurkey on...what, Vegan planet? Really, I don't mind meatless meatballs and fake corndogs, but on the holy day of food and thanks, this dog better get some roasted turkey slathered in butterball juices and dripping with cranberry sauce.

Next, it'll be Fauxcranberry sauce, because the cranberries have suffered long enough. What with their mushing and jelling and jarring, it'd be a shame to harm them anymore. After all, a cranberry has feelings too. I'm sure they scream as they're pulled from their bog, only we can't hear 'em.

Tofurkey. Tofurkey. Oops, don't say the word three times in a row or you'll turn into one of them.

Gobble Gobble Gobble.

Happy 99th Birthday!

0

birthday cats painting
A big BARK out to one of my most favorite humans in the whole wide world--Happy 99th Birthday!!! I hope your cake doesn't burn down the lake house!!!

Hey, you know, you're almost a century old? Or is that a century young? The things you've seen, I can only imagine what changes there have been for bad or good. I'm sure glad you're around to let me sit on your lap and listen to your stories of yesteryear. Seeing you warms my fuzzy heart. I feel honored to have learned so much from you.

Thank-you and may your birthday be happy, healthy, and superduper fun! :-)

Happy Belated Veteran's Day!

0

Guess what our neighborhood is doing? First, we had a dog and cat Veteran's Day parade on Saturday. We all wore yellow ribbons and lots of flags were everywhere! Then, we're all going to tie yellow ribbons around every tree on the block (our yard already had one on the big magnolia!) and everyone has promised to fly their flags each day (something M and M already do, and my collar has the flag on it too!).

Why are we doing all this? Just because sometimes we forget the sacrifices our armed forces make for us.

Thank-you to them all!

Technical Difficulties, WOOOF!

0

tech screen photo

Remember how I said I was a superstitious dog? Well, I should have knocked on wood after saying that! First, I found three shiny new 2006 pennies while on my evening walk around the block. No biggie, right? Ok, then we pick up a doggie treat at a local Pet Boutique, and what is the total amount payed? Yep, six dollars and sixty six cents. Ok, then I have technical difficulties (ie unable to post since October 13th--Friday THE 13th) and until today, I couldn't blog.

A dog in my situation is apt to develop a severe fur pulling syndrome.

Now, where's that wooden chew toy...

0

Happy Friday the 13th!

Don't let any black cats cross your path. If you use salt, throw some over your shoulder. No sidestepping under a ladder and watch out for pennies on the sidewalk. Keep an eye out for hollowed out tree stumps and be sure and avoid crows.

I think I'm going to curl up with some hot coffee and watch a spooky horror flick.

Wed Nes Day

0

Wed-Nes-Day. That's always how I think of Wednesday when I write it, type it or say it. Is that weird? Then I got to thinking, and I realized I'm a weird dog. No, really, I am.

Now, the fact that I have a passion for sniffing Queen Elizabeth Roses is a little eccentric. However, I can attest to the fact that they smell awfully delicious when in full bloom and reaching toward the sky with their crimson petals.

Ok, I'm a coffee addict. Sure, an insomniac shouldn't be imbibing the roasted coffee beans imported from Hawaii, but I can't help it. I love the liquid d'lish. It's warm and makes me sleepy, well, sometimes, and only if it's after 3am and Law & Order: CI isn't on.

I dare say that I've actually forgotten how much fun a drinking fountain can be.

Stream-of-dog-consciousness is weird too.

Saddleback Mountain

0

Saddleback Mountain in Orange County, California Painting
Sometimes I like to go hiking with Sambo and Mocha in O'Neill Park. The park is at the base, or in the shadow of, Saddleback Mountain. A majestic range often called the Santa Ana Mountains too. It's during these times that I can see the beauty of everyday items, such as a dry oak leaf clasping to my fur, or a patch of ochre lichen in the crevice of a tall oak.

Yes, if I'd have to define serenity today...it would probably be the rustle of leaves through a grove of scrub oaks in Orange County. It's rare these days.

Been a Bit Under the Weather

0

I've been a lazy dog. First the heat and then I get a little sick. No fun! Ok, I'm ready to rock this block again. My buddy Mocha is on vacation with his family. They're visiting Hearst Castle and then on to San Francisco.

I'm thinking of going camping soon. Doesn't that sound fun? I hear the waterfalls in Hallow Grove calling my name again. There is nothing better than chasing frogs and splashing in a stream. Ok, I'll make an exception...a freshly fried catfish with butter and lemon over a firepit under the skies of shooting stars.

Earthgrazers in the sky!

0

Ok, so I don't have a photo because my paws aren't so coordinated after dark. However, if you're as nocturnal as I am, maybe you can catch a Perseid earthgrazer on film and send it to me? Sounds good to me. And even if you don't catch one on film, I'd love to hear from you anyhow.

For those who love a good shooting star night...head on out tonight between 8pm until 10pm your local time and look toward the Northern sky. That's right, it's that time of year. Perseids are abound in the sky above. The moon may cause problems viewing, but you can still try before the moon rises.

I tried last night and saw 2 spectacular Perseids! Once you see one, you can't wait to see another!

Sad but Happy News?

0

A photo of the oldest known Crow named Tata

In sad news, Tata has passed away at the age of 59. But, to live that long is pretty neat for a Crow! Tata may have not been able to fly, but he sounds like he had other gifts to bestow over the years.

I've known a few Crows and they are quite friendly. I used to have a little buddy who liked whole peanuts in their shell. He'd toss the shells down the roof and they'd slide into our yard. Kind of a game between him and I. Although a little timid at first, he introduced himself as Sir Wilbur one day when I was strolling near. And so it began.

We played the peanut game every couple of days for about three years on and off. Then, on a Tuesday in November 2004, he said he needed to stretch his wings.

It's been awhile Sir Wilbur. I miss fetching the peanut shells from the garden.

So, here's to Tata, Thank-you for reminding me of my dear old friend.

My Doggie "Peace" of the Week!

0

bumper sticker saying peace begins with me

And here I thought today was just another do da day! Nope, not in the least. I got to go for a very enjoyable car ride in a spiffy black convertible (circa 1950 something!) and I had a wonderful time with the wind whipping through my freshly washed fur!

But the best part was an unusual observance that occurred late in the ride (after a little stop for mmm mmm coffee!).

Being the literary dog I am, I enjoy reading the bumper stickers on cars. So, I read the above bumper sticker, "Let Peace Begin With Me," on a small silver Honda in front of us at a red light. Then, the light turns and up at the next light (which has a left turn onto the highway), a truck cuts from on the right of us and then behind the Honda and into the left turn to the highway on ramp.

Well, no biggie, right? Wrong! In a split second, before I can lick my chops (which tasted a lot like $3.49/gal gas), I saw the Honda dude roll down his driver side window and...well, he made a universal bird gesture.

Oh my! I'm wondering now... Is that what he meant by "Peace begins with me"? Made me laugh so hard, I almost swallowed another bee. And so, if you happen to catch a glimpse of Mr Honda guy with the Peace bumper sticker, take heed and drive with caution.

Maybe I'm now an official "bird watcher", ya think?

Animal News!

Belle, the hero dog
Some interesting animal news that caught my eye:

A Rottweiler Dog "barked" 911 for owner in Washington. Now, that dog brings true meaning to her name!

In Florida, a darling Beagle Dog named Belle helped her owner get help with 911. My kind of hero! Way to go Belle (her photo is above)!

Sadly, the oldest living tortoise, Harriet , died. The good news? She lived to be a ripe old age of 176! Oh, to be so lucky! Can you imagine what she saw in her lifetime?

The Whimsical Briard Dog

0

Briard Dog with expresso painting

Have you ever seen a dog who loves coffee (or in this case, expresso)? Well, let me just say that my pal Jazz, a Briard, loves expresso and boy-oh-boy! His tail goes whiz bang back and forth like a wind-up toy! It's amazing!

So, all this hyper doggie tail business made me wonder if maybe dogs could fly. Say, I got a hold of a couple bags of fresh roasted butterscotch expresso (the smell makes my nose go bonkers--it's so delicious!). Then, and this is just hypothetical, say I got my hand on a coffee grinder and a coffee maker (Why isn't it Mrs. Coffee, huh? We know who fixes the best cups!) and then made a few dozen cups of hot brewed java.

Ya think my tail would cause enough of an upwind to propel me like a helicopter?

Well, a dog can dream.

June 6, 2006 or 06-06-06

0

Photo of D-Day 1944 War
Well, I've sure heard a lot about today. The date. The Omen Remake. Blah blah blah. I only wish I could pick up a nifty shirt in doggie size with the date written in white on a black background. Pretty cool.

Ah, but the catch is that very few are even mentioning the real significance of the date 6-6-06. I did hear a brief discussion on some news station, but the emphasis is on brief.

Today marks the anniversary of D-Day. June 6th, 1944 is the day the Battle of Normandy began during WW11.

So, as much as the media would like us to believe that today is about some unnecessary remake of a classic horror flick ( Oh, don't get me started on remakes!) because Hollywood would rather remake a classic than pay a writer for an actual original screenplay...

I'd much rather honor the anniversary of D-Day and all the lives lost so a doggie like me can be free and be proud to be an American. Thank-you to those who fought, to those who fight, and to those who we'll never forget.

ArT Cards are Fun!

0

Wheaten Terrier Dog arT card

M has been drawing more art cards. They're kind of like baseball cards, only without any bubblegum and no baseball players. Ok, so maybe they're more like....miniature art on a card size. :-)

So, what's new and blue ?

Easter is already over? I missed the Easter Bunny? Huh?

Yep, it's allergy season. I got served a whopper of allergies. I've been itchy. Then, ahhh, relief. Not as much sneezing. M always laughs when I sneeze. She thinks it's quite funny. Then again, I think it's funny when she sneezes too. She makes a high pitched sound that perks my ears.

Now, Mocha, my doggie pal, he thinks sneezing is hilarious too! He'll roll over on his back and wiggle in the grass when I'm sneezing my fur off.

So, I'm going to go looking for some Easter Eggs. I bet a few got left behind. Ohh, maybe a gold foil covered egg. Now, that would be fun to find among the Iris blossoms.

I myself like 'em cause they're small and fun to collect. She makes me my own special cards and I keep them in my special PJ Scrapbook. Yep, I even have a card I tried to draw. Alas, what with paws and nails and fur...I had a heck of a time trying to hold the pen. Meooowzer Baby!

0

cat illustration with blue eyes
Hiya all!

We've got new ACEO's online and they're illustrated in pen and ink. Fun fun fun! M says they take time, but she likes the fine details one can get with pen & ink.

Today, I saw another baby gopher. Poor thing popped it's little cocoa head out of the top soil and looked around just in time to catch me peering at it. I, being the kind and lazy dog I am, let the teeny creature feel top of the world by not giving chase. Plus, who needs a muddy face when there's a fresh cup of mocha coffee in the house?

Speaking of which, it's time for some cartoons. Beep beep!

Oh, hey, almost forgot. I learned something today. For those Appleworks devotees and novices alike, I found a neat trick my eyes really appreciated. At the bottom left corner of a spreadsheet document, there are two icons of a small mountain and a large mountain. Hit the large mountain and ta da baby! The document zooms in for those late nights when you're eyes tire. Then, hit the small mountain to zoom out.

I can't believe I missed this little doozy for so many years. Yikes! Well, I hope it'll help someone. Let me know if it does. :-)

iPod Zombies: Pombies?

0

Pombie the iPod Zombie
I recently heard the phrase "iPod Zombies," which originated in a New York Village Voice (I think) article. Now, I'm a huge fan of Apple, but I just had to play around with my paws (ie the above image).

So, the zombie aspect got me thinking. It's true! I see so many people with white earbuds in their ears as they walk, jog, skateboard, rollerblade, shop, drive, and even gardening. As a dog, I'm kind of invisible, but with earbuds, I can sneak right up on these "iPod Zombies." So much fun!

Being they have grown in exponential numbers lately (even the carpool lane!), I've come up with my own term for the earbud-wearing-white-wires-hanging-from-ears-oblivious-to-the-world-around-them-as-they-imbibe-iTunes-at-an-alarming-rate.

Pombies. Yes, you heard it hear first. Pombies are now walking the Earth! Incredibly (not really), movies like Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead, and 28 Days Later come to mind. Most new zombie flicks pay homage to George Romero with a "Dead Walk the Streets" plastered across a newspaper headline. Often the paper will be crumpled, tattered, splattered with blood and strewn in an empty street (for example, Resident Evil at the end of the movie). I wonder if it's inevitable...

I've seen them...and then it got me thinking of yet another movie. They. Great sci-fi flick where the main characters discover (*SPOILER ALERT*), through the use of special sunglasses, that aliens are living and breathing among them. Subliminal messages from the aliens to humans can be seen with the use of the glasses (ie the word Obey on the screen above--you can see it, right? :-))

Ok, so maybe Pombies are not zombies at all. Maybe (and I'm just using my doggie mind here), maybe they are using iPods to detect who and who is not from another planet??

Now, that is a scary thought...

Where are my earbuds? Do they make doggie earbuds? Oh no.....I was wrong. Pombies are on the sidewalk. I see two, no make that three. They wear jeans and t-shirts, but the dangling wires and listless eyes give them away. I think I hear "Pretty Vegas" coming from one of them.

Brains! They want brains. I'm afraid they're going to be disappointed with my entree. :-)

M let me peek inside her purse and boy oh boy! Shiny keys that unlock cars, doors to rooms, and even a button thing that makes the four wheeler go "beep beep" from far far away! She had a stick of red stuff, tasted like candle wax and smelled like cherries. I got some on my fur too. What a mess, I tell ya.
Little slips of paper that I wasn't allowed to tear to shreds, of course. And then shiny little flat pieces of metal with portraits. Fun discs I call 'em! They make tink noises when they spill onto a marble floor. Some even spin and roll under chairs when I gave chase and bopped them with my nose.

I never knew a purse could be so much fun. More! Let's head to the mall...I bet there are a lot there for me to check out.
Hey, here's a thought, a doggie purse. I could store my license (it tends to jingle and gives me away when I'm up to something (or so they tell me) and I could put a handy pen and pad of paper for when I'm feeling...poetic.

Ok, a Birkin Bag for moi. It'd be a good thing.

Spring Gratitude

1

Westie Dog with flowers
Don't you just love the day when there are cyan blue skies, fluffy cream whipped clouds, and new blossoms all around? The Black Phoebes are chirping, the large coal black Crows are perching on street lights like asphalt lifeguards and bees can be heard buzzing from the bushes.

What are you grateful for today?

Oscars: Am I the Only One?

0

oscar statue
Am I the only one who looks forward to the montage of photos and video clips memoralizing those actors and actresses who have passed away in the last year? I always look forward to seeing "for whom the bell has tolled." I'm not being all melancholy, I just like remembering each one. It's sad and beautiful all at the same time. I may not have known them, but through the talkies I felt like I did!

Ok, just checking. Enjoy the red carpet, I'm off to get me some nummies to munch on and watch some horror flicks (I like to PIP the awards show).

The Ants Go Marching One by One

0

orchid closeup
I have had this song stuck in my head all day long. I think it's the fever. I also had my nose burrowed into a muddy hole and managed to find a sunflower pod with dried sunflower seeds. What fun! I ran around the yard and shook the pod and dug at the dried cluster until seeds began popping out. Then, being a proud pup, I dragged the pod (stem and all) to the back porch and placed my treasure atop a pile of warm folded jeans in a wicker laundry basket.

And you know what? I even followed a couple of ants, but they didn't seem to want to play with me after my black button nose chased them across the cobblestone path. I sniffed out an orchid blossom though and the lip kept bopping me as I licked at the pretty petals.

Welp, I shall try my nose with ants again tomorrow.

I just realized how unorganized my thoughts are... Now, if you know this, that's good, right? If I didn't notice, I'd be dog gone bonkers. Hmmm...

Cookies? Did someone say coooooookies?

The Sun Came Out and the Mud In

0

The sun came out today. Yippee! I ran to my favorite fig tree and dug a nice hole. Being that the ground had just received a fresh soaking from the clouds above, my legs had mud from here---------to there! I got a pretty good sized hole, and even saw a gopher peeking out from another hole around the other side of the wisteria. After getting my face well mudded, I headed in and snuck past the guard to Emerald City.

"Messy!" I heard as I zoomed inside the french doors and dashed for the demin white couch.

"Oh no you don't" I could hear as I dashed down the hall and right past her in the kitchen.

"Hey now!" She laughed as I rolled on the floor. My paws had smeared half the mud across the carpet runner and I even managed to get a little on the fridge door as I zooooomed by. Honest, I didn't mean to get any mud anywhere, but I sure don't like it to cake onto my fur as it dries. Ick!

I been a bad doggie. Tsk tsk.

My punishment? Oh, I was forced to take a warm bath and be dried off with a fluffy towel which was still warm from the dryer. Poooooor little me. Now, I got some warm chicken stock to lick up and guess where I got to be put?

Yep, the white denim couch. I was all bundled up and kept warm 'cause I got me the shivers from the cold mud.
I been a bad doggie. Woof! :-)

Bed Rest or is it Best Read?

0

Sick Dog in Bed
Sometimes, a dog is too tired and has the sniffles.

Today is one of those days. Chicken soup and a warm goosedown comfy with zinc lozenges, vitamin C, and water. I'm not up to reburying that chew bone in the backyard. Time for an all day DVD fest. Bring 'em on!

Rub a Dub Dub, Seven Doggies in a Tub!

0

Painting of 7 Toy Dogs in tub

I often am inspired by M and M and their paintings. So, in the spirit of this I have written a dog gone silly-makes-no-sense-and-isn't-worth-reading poem. Rhyming is fun! Beep beep.

Seven little Toy Dogs
sitting in a tub
The first a little Bichon
who'd like a good scrub!

The second tiny doggie
is ready to make a run
A Cavalier from a long line
the bubbles are a lot of fun!

The third little pooch
is a happy Maltese
who loves the warm water
but the bubbles make her sneeze!

The fourth small toy dog
a Papillion who wonders why
if the bubbles get too close
can his butterfly ears fly?

The fifth little cutie of fur
a Yorkie who loves to be pampered so
she can't wait for the warm towels
and of course, a little red bow!

The sixth tiny pooch
a fawn Pug who'd like to splash
he wonders about those bubbles
and is considering a mad dash!

The seventh, and final toy dog
is a curious Pom Pom pooch
she's after a rogue bubble
and likely to give it a smooch!

Two Dogs and a Sunset

0

Briard Dog Painting with Beach

Geneva and Griffon love to go to the beach every day. The beach holds good memories for the two of them. In fact, the beach holds great memories. Standing on the shore, nose to nose, they gaze into the eyes of one another and remember all the times when they were young Briards and ran along the shore until their tongues lolled to the side of their mouths.

After many years together, they still are true to the puppy love that brought them together. They still splash into the water, fur flying, as the waves crash around them. They still love to chase the seagulls who tip toe nearby.

Though a sherbert sky may melt into the horizon, they don't break the gaze between them. For these two, sunset down at Newport Beach on a windy day is golden. The smell of warm delicious hamburgers from the end of the pier at Ruby's Diner drifts across the slight breeze and makes their black button noses twitch with anticipation. The wet sand sinks beneath their paws and small air bubbles rise to the surface as they walk along the rising tide.

The gentle roll of waves swirls the sky into a master piece of impressionism for one brief moment as the moon begins to cast a white sliver above them.

Robert Frost wrote that "nothing gold can stay."

But for Geneva and Griffon, he'd have made an exception I'm sure.

Happy Belated Valentine's Day!

I got doggie cards from as far away as Norway and even some doggie nibble bones. Yummy! They came in a heart shaped box which I then tore to shreds (it's always fun to rip cardboard and paper, eh?).

A Nose for the News !

0

Labrador Retriever Dog with Newspaper

I think someone got a little over zealous when retrieving the morning newspaper! Looks like someone has been reading craft tips on making paper hats and wants first dibs on the rest of the paper.

Aren't crafts fun? We have a little doggie craft club. We make all sorts of things. Like, last week we made those safety pin flags which can be worn as brooches or on the lapel. The week before, more marble magnets, and prior to that we had a blast learning how to felt a hat. Who knew our paws could be so dexterous?

The Wiener Mobile Chase, Live @ 5!

0

Doxie Dogs

It began as a slow speed chase. The trio of Dapple Doxies made a run for it at the local hotdog stand. Covered in mustard and ketchup, they took off, hot diggity dog did they sail down the road!

From Chopper 2, the image of the trio (as seen above) was caught by our own pilot. We have a glimpse of the Doxie dashers behind the wheel of the wiener Mobile as they make their way across the state, eating numerous hotdogs (making mustard and ketchup traffic jams along the interstate) and tossing plastic whistles to passing motorists (according to eyewitnesses at the scene, we're hearing reports that the Doxie trio are flashing grins ear to long ear and barking happily at pedestrians walking dogs). Beep Beep! We'll keep you updated as the chase continues--it's dog gone wild! Stay indoors folks...the Doxies are known to give a look that will melt your heart. :-)

And that, my doggie friend, is how the legend of the Dapple Gang began...

Sharing the Chair

0

Basset Hound Dogs on chair
I have a favorite chair that I just love sitting in, ok, I love lounging all over the chair. I'm often found hanging off my chair (well, it's actually not mine, but I have claimed the chair and as far as doggie laws go--mine mine mine!), much like the two Basset Hound Dogs above. Now, this chair is in my home, but there is another chair I'd like to get my paws on. I've heard of a tingly chair.

So, can you guess where I'll be today? Yes, that's right. We discovered the coveted massage chair at Mocha's home and I'm going to go hang out their and see if by calling "shotgun" I can attain a little space on that wonderful contraption which zips and vvvvoooms and will make my fur all tingly. I might even doze off!

Mocha and I found the chair while exploring the upstairs master bedroom suite one day. Now, normally that area is blocked off to us. But, we found the gatekeeper fast asleep on the humming chair with a newspaper opened across his chest. Being careful not to disturb him while he hibernated, we tip toed around the chair and after much debate discovered this was indeed the legendary "tingly" chair we had heard about from other dogs. A nice Maltese down the block named Kendall had told us of this mythic chair. But we didn't believe her...until yesterday.

So, wish me luck. I'm off to try out the tingly chair with Mocha. I even heard there's a magical snack dispenser near by. Woo hoo!

Golden Retriever Dogs
Do you like to ride in the car? Well, I sure do. The feel of the wind in my fur, the flap of my gums, and the taste of the air. Yum! I get to sniff millions upon millions of yummy things all at once (like burgers, fries, lemon aid, orange blossoms, and roses in bloom!).

The best part? People (and dog) watching.

Would you like cream and sugar?

0

boston terrier drinking coffee
Well, it's been a long week, hasn't it?

Things are looking better. I got some sleep, but could use a few more doggie naps. How about you? Anyway, I best be trotting off. I have a walk around the block planned with my pal Mocha. He's been in the doldrums because he's trying to cut back on his caffeine intake. Needless to say, his fur looks flat and his tongue lags a little to the side...so I'm hoping a warm cup o' joe will do the trick.

I tell ya, one should never deny themselves coffee. For goodness sake, it's my lifeblood.

Oopsie! Doctor, Doctor...

0

Well, I've been a busy busy doggie this past weekend. Not good busy either.

To my regular reader (I like to think of you as my Peachy Keen Pal), I will probably not be able to post regularily for about a week. :-( We've been going back-and-forth to the hospital for a human among us. Keep those fingers crossed that everything turns out ok.

I will say this. Isn't it strange how not much else matters when someone you love isn't feeling well? Priorities become clearer right away. Like a snap (and it's not like I can snap with my paws very easily either!).

Anyway, I'm going to go grab some shut eye. Been up late and my doggie ears are hanging low.

Happy 300th Birthday Benjamin Franklin !

0

Benjamin Franklin Birthday

Happy Birthday!

I wonder what Mr. Franklin would have thought of the times we live in? I often wonder why so many frown on looking back. History is important. Not to be forgotten. And yet, some say "don't live in the past." Why, I wonder do they toss the past away so easily? Perhaps they have not the simple wisdom of any domesticated dog. The past, be it the history of our own United States, or your own years on Earth, are to be learned from. To be cherished. To reflect upon.

Ah yes, maybe those who dismiss history without a second thought are in fact, "doomed to repeat it" in a "Groundhog Day" sort of way. :-)

The Sounds of Sunday

0

As I rested on the cold cement patio this evening, I heard many sounds. I perked one dog ear to catch the flurry of a siren as the ambulance drove past on the road a couple blocks over. The siren paused and eventually faded off beyond the reach of my radar abilities.

Tucking my paws under my chest, I tipped my head to listen to the hum of traffic. Cars zooming home on Sunday night. Or away from the city to the mountains for a snow day tomorrow. I could imagine the red tail lights blurring at high speed on one side as the others blended blue and white into a synchronized patriotic highway.

The hum of engines and tires slapping the asphalt tickled the air with an almost static resonance that I could feel as it passed under my paws and up through the cement beneath me.

A few moments later, I succumbed to the urge to let my head topple over and rest. The sun had just left pink streaks in the sky, which twirled among the white clouds to create a sorbet for my eyes. A sweet mourning dove landed at the bird feeder basin a few feet away. I watched as she dipped her head cautiously below the rim to peck at the seeds. She kept her eye on me as she ate. I kept still, not even twitching my tail in response.

Her cooing made my eyes flutter. The soft sound slipped down the pink skin lining my ear and felt warm. My heart slowed and managed to beat in tune with each coo I heard. At last, just as I had tuned into the symphony of the night she played only for me, it ended in a flutter of hurried wings. The flaps of grey brought seed husks flying in a swirl above the basin. She rustled past the lemon tree, sending a sweet fragrance of summer my way as she disappeared into a high perch somewhere in the Italian Cypress across the field.

I wondered what had frightened her, but didn't see a hawk as had happened before. Perhaps the arrival of darkness sent her home. I flicked my ear down to block out the traffic once again.

Yes, the sounds of this Sunday made for a sweet melody I won't forget. I soon headed inside for a warm bed in front of a roaring fire. I hope the dove will return again for an encore.

Acronyms r the BomB, LOL

0

I never realized how many acronyms I use, until Mocha made me aware today.

On a walk around the block, we were looking at a new lavender plant that we had yet to sniff and admire, when I saw a crow waddling over to do the same. I almost said LOL instead of laughing. When I mentioned this to Mocha, he replied, "How peculiar PJ."

Lol. ROFL. ASAP. There are tons of them everywhere!

Curious how my mind now wants to abbreviate to save time? Or maybe saving space is the consequence.

It's interesting to note that I keep finding 2005 noted here and there and I have to revise the item. Be it a check (VOID!), a letter (Yes, I still write actual letters by paw), an email, or html.

I must have fur on the brain. Or is that a furry brain in my case? Not sure.

Eternal

0

abstract painting titled Eternal

Well, we finally relisted this unique 3 panel painting. M and M don't often paint abstracts and even rarer is a collaboration on a piece together (they always are working on so many individually, that it's hard to make time to collaborate!). The love of the beach brought about the inspiration.

So, what's been going on? The New Year brought a TON of new toys. This dog has been playing with all sorts of nifty toys. And yet, I still hold true to my first toy ever...a small stuffed rabbit. It holds a special place in my doggie heart. I am most careful when teething my rabbit toy and I always gently lift the small ragged body in between my powerful (ok, I have little teeth, but I can dream!) steel jaws and carry my wabbit to my doggie bed each and every night.

Mocha, a doggie pal of mine, has quite a time with my wabbit. He's a regular comedian. A sort of Jerry Seinfeld in the dog world. Anyhow, he says my wabbit has seen better days. But I disagree. My wabbit is booteeful.

Happy 2006!
